Boundless energy, a love for people, a love for family and a love for the word of God. These are some of the words used to describe Dion Evans, affectionately called, Pastor D. Pastor D was born and raised in Inglewood (The Wood), California in 1974. Raised as an only child he has a natural bent toward making friends and developing relationships. At the age of 17 Pastor D was called into the ministry of preaching and it was until that when he would receive the call to pastor a church. The bulk of Pastor D’s ministry training came under the watchful eye and mentoring of Dr. Cecil “Chip” Murray of First AME Church Los Angeles. Pastor D served in several capacities while at First AME including, but not limited to Youth Ministry and Ministry Staff Supervisor.
Upon leaving First AME Church Pastor D’s calling and journey would take him to Faithful Central Bible Churchunder the dynamic leadership of Bishop Kenneth Ulmer. It was there that he continued to hone his preaching skills and ministry work. In 2001 after a short visit to Atlanta for Thanksgiving, God dropped a heart for the city into Pastor D. It was with this that He and his wife relocated to Atlanta (Gwinnett County to be exact). This was a total shock and not something at all that he wanted to do. It was with the blessing of his ministry partners and Bishop Ulmer that he made his way, he and his wife down Interstate 10 to Atlanta, Georgia. In 2003 Pastor D founded Gethsemane Worship Center in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Some years after battling with the Lord and with wise counsel he pressed the brakes on the church to regroup and relaunch. This brought him to the place of starting from scratch, but this time doing it all the right way! Pastor D and his wife are currently in the process of building a launch team for the January 2010 launch of Purpose Church, a people of purpose living life on purpose!
